The CGU Class vessels are massive space craft that can best be described as mobile industrial complexes, or just for short as Von Neumann machines.
They have been designed by the Titanai Mind Gravitas is an Illusion in the 2170s, to provide the Titanai space settlement initiatives with a mobile production capacity able to produce a single standard O'Neill Island 3 space habitat within two years, including the internal terraforming, or a habitat for Titanai heptapods within three years. This allowed the Titanai to expand their space presence faster than previously expected.
The GCUs are equipped with mining, refining and construction equipment that allows them to create everything, even a direct copy of their own design.
However, no CGU looks like the other, even if they are generally about the same weight.
Only five GCUs have been build by 2250, their names, for some reason, taken from a 21st century series of computer games, called 'Homeworld'. The shape of the CGUs reflect the shape of the names vessels in the games.
