Humans

The term 'Human' originated with homo sapiens sapiens on Earth to describe themselves, but is used in the 23rd century as a general term to describe all known sophont species in many Earth languages.

This reuse of the term comes from linguistic, psychological and philosophic research into other sophont species known at the time by homo sapiens sapiens, discovering that linguistically the name a species gives itself, such as Quetzal, Tiaunt or Ormiold, can generally be translated to 'human' in its meaning. In addition psychological and philosophic comparisons could be made, resulting in the discovery that any of the these known species fall into the same sort of deviations observed in known homo sapiens sapiens cultures.

During the Era of Insulation in the Solar System, this use of the term 'human' was pioneered by the Spacers, who had close contact with the Titanai allowed them to experience these aliens as 'just people'. This would later spread out over the rest of homo sapiens sapiens, even if there are 'human supremacist' groups on Earth who do not like this connotation.
